Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church of Opelousas is celebrating its 100th year anniversary this week.
Activities begin today to mark the church's centennial. The church is located at 621 Narrow Street.
Revival meetings begin this evening. There will be a 6 p.m. service with the Rev. Allen Ben, revivalist today, tomorrow and Thursday. There will be music from the church's choirs and a praise dance.
On Friday, there will be an Anniversary Musical startin at 6:30 p.m. featuring performances from area choirs and soloists.
On Saturday, a Family Fun Day starts at 10 a.m. Among the planned activities are demonstrations of ice cream making, butter churning and hog crackling. There also will be performances, videos and a "Look into the Past" presentation with a meal provided.
On Sunday, Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. followed by the church service at 11 a.m. A fellowship meal will follow the service.
