UPDATE (9:00 p.m. 12/29): According to Church Point police chief Dale Thibodeaux, Rasiem Fredericks has tendered his resignation, effective Tuesday, December 29, 2020, and is no longer employed by the Church Point Police Department.
ORIGINAL STORY: According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, on December 25, 2020, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Castille Road in Sunset in regards to a domestic abuse battery complaint against a recently-hired Church Point Police officer.
Deputies met with a woman, who stated that Rasiem Fredericks, 27, was at her home with her three juvenile children, ages 6 years, 2 years and 1 year old. While she was away from her home for a short while, she received a text message from Fredericks, who stated that the 6 year old juvenile yelled at him and hit him in the head, according to a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.
Fredericks stated in a text that he responded by slapping the 6 year old juvenile in the face, but he did not hit him hard enough to make the juvenile pass out, stated the spokesperson. Investigators say Fresericks also sent a picture of the juvenile to the victim’s mother, stating that the juvenile was being too disrespectful and he will not allow it.
A short while later, Fredericks texted the victim’s mother again stating that this was a social media prank.
When deputies arrived at the residence and questioned Rasiem Fredericks, he stated that this was a joke and he used makeup on the child’s face because it was a social media prank, according to the spokesperson. He also allegedly stated that the mother took the joke too seriously.
The juvenile’s face was showing redness and made complaints of tenderness when the red area was touched, according to investigators. The juvenile stated that makeup was not applied to his face.
Rasiem Fredericks was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail booked for Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment. No bond has been set.
He was placed on administrative from the Church Point Police Department following his arrest.
