The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has arrested a Melville woman accused of setting fire to her grandparents’ home, where she was staying.

29-year-old Kari Ganson was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count of Simple Arson.

In the early morning hours of November 8, the Melville Fire Department responded to the 200 block of Oak Street for a report of a house fire. The State Fire Marshal's Office says that due to the extent of the damage, and information firefighters learned about the circumstances surrounding the fire, the SFM was requested to assist with determining the origin and cause of the fire.

After an assessment of the scene, investigators determined the fire originated in a bedroom and was intentionally set.

Through additional investigative efforts, Ganson was identified as a suspect in the case and taken into custody.
