Man injured in shooting on S. Washington and Roberts Street in Opelousas

A man was injured and is in stable condition following a shooting in Opelousas.

Opelousas Police say that on January 4, 2021 at around 2:30 p.m. they were made aware of a shooting that had occurred within city limits. The police department says that officers became aware of the shooting after observing vehicles driving erratically on N. Union Street headed northbound.

One of the vehicles appeared to have several gunshot holes.

Police say that the drivers signaled to the officer that they were trying to get to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital officers learned that one victim had suffered from a gunshot wound to the neck area. The man was treated and was listed in stable condition.

An investigation indicated that the shooting happened near the intersection of S. Washington and Roberts Street. Police say that a vehicle that was following the vehicle being driven by the victim, fired multiple times at the victim's vehicle. A female passenger in the vehicle was not struck by any gunfire.

No vehicle or suspect information was made available.
