The Opelousas Police Department says they have made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in June

Officers arrested 20-year-old Brian Keith Broussard of Opelousas in connection with a June 11th incident where a taxi driver was allegedly robbed at gunpoint.

The police department says they stopped Broussard while patrolling in the 800 block of Emmett Street on Tuesday July 16, 2019. During that contact, investigators say they discovered a handgun concealed on Broussard and he was arrested.

Broussard was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the illegal carrying of a weapon violation.

Investigators say that following Broussard's arrest, they located other items in his possession that led them to look further into the June 11th armed robbery. In that incident, a taxi driver was allegedly robbed at gun point in the 1200 block of Daniel Alley and his taxi was stolen. The abandoned taxi was found a few blocks away a short time later, according to police.

After following up on details on the new information, Opelousas Police booked Broussard on one count of armed robbery.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrest are expected.
