Man arrested for gun thefts at Eunice business

A Palmetto man has been arrested for allegedly stealing firearms from a business in Eunice.

The Eunice Police says that on January 7, 2020, they arrested 19-year-old Chester Alford in connection with the December 23,2019 burglary which occurred at Double Action Outdoor Sports on W. Maple Avenue.

Fontenot said an alarm came in at 4:51 a.m. on that day and officers arrived two minutes later to find the front door window and bars broken, and the power had been cut to the building. There were multiple firearms stolen including 32 handgun and four long guns, Fontenot said.

Alford was booked and charged with 36 counts of Theft of Firearms, Simple Burglary, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile. Chief Randy Fontenot of the Eunice Police Department thanks the ATF and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office for their assistance in this investigation.

Chief Fontenot also said the investigation is not complete yet and more arrests are expected.
