Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot says that the gas leak between North 8th & 9th Streets at Vine Street is under control.

Evacuations in the areas have been lifted.

All residents are asked to check their pilot lights and call the city if they are out or have any problems.

The chief says that the the leak appears to have been caused by a failure in the line.

Several roadways in an eight-block area were closed to traffic as crews assessed the leak.

"When we got there, the fire department was on scene," explained Chief Fontenot. "It was a pretty bad leak, so we made a decision to evacuate. And there was a daycare center across the street that was also evacuated."

The Eunice City Marshal's Office announced the leak via Facebook on Thursday morning. See that post below.
