OPELOUSAS, La. - Two Opelousas residents were killed in a head-on collision in St. Landry Parish Saturday night.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on April 25, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 182 near Annointing Drive in St. Landry Parish, according to TFC Thomas Gossen, Troop I spokesperson. The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Brashley Renee Chambers and 43-year-old Ramando Fredrico Royston.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Royston, was traveling South on LA 182. At the same time, a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by Chambers, was traveling North on LA 182. Police say, for reasons still under investigation, Royston's Suburban crossed the center lines and struck the Accord head-on in the northbound lane of travel.

Troopers determined Chambers was unrestrained and Royston was restrained at the time of the crash. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office, Gossen stated. Toxicology samples were taken from the drivers and results are pending.

This crash remains under investigation.

Troop I has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 18 deaths since the beginning of 2020.
