Opelousas General Health invited the community out to "Paint the Town Pink" for breast cancer awareness.

The Paint the Town Pink will be ongoing throughout the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Tuesday, a new addition to the lineup is the Hero Honor Hour which began at 5:30 pm at Vieux Village. The event lasts until 6:30 pm.

Director of Foundation for OGHS Tracy Antee said that the event is meant to let those in the community know they have support.

"They can attend this event with their family, with friends, with other people in the community, and realize that even if their breast cancer survivor is no longer with them, that they still have a community that's here to love and support them."

Paint the Town Pink t-shirts, event tickets, honor ribbons and car magnets were available for purchase.

The event featured food and live music. A brief ceremony for local breast cancer heroes was held.
