Funeral services were held Saturday for 18-year-old Kori Gauthier of Opelousas.

The service was held at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Church in Opelousas for Gauthier, who died on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Many attended the service and were struck by the final words Gauthier's sister wrote to remember her.

"I'm so grateful for the years we had and the closeness that we shared. Your heart, so kind and thoughtful; I always knew you cared. You were a wonderful sister. I miss you, no end. But more than just my family, I've lost a special friend."

Kori's parents also shared an emotional tribute to their daughter.

"Dear God, please take care of our little girl, the one with big eyes and soft brown curls. She was special, as you know; we really did not want to let her go.

She touched the hearts of everyone she knew, letting her go was so hard to do. Her smile could brighten up the darkest room. I really wish you didn't take her so soon.

And tell her she is missed every day and night. Please tell her she was loved so very dear. We will say it every day for her to hear.

We promise to make up for time that has passed, and hold her and comfort her at last.

Love, mom and daddy"

Gauthier is survived by her parents, Misti Ravare and LeVar Gauthier of Opelousas, three brothers and two sisters, a special friend, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather.
