WASHINGTON, La. — In the Town of Washington, a new foundation is working to protect and preserve their historic cemeteries.

The Cemetery Foundation with the Town of Washington is inviting the public to the Cedar Hill Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The foundation is tasked with helping the Town of Washington maintain three cemeteries, but they need the public's help.

Saturday's event will showcase what is needed to keep the cemeteries maintained and in good condition.

The cemeteries are Cedar Hill Cemetery located on Cedar Hill Drive, Hebrew Rest Cemetery located on West Hill Drive and Old Church Landing Cemetery on West Hill Street. All three began burials in the 1700s.

"Our Foundation will be helping the Town of Washington to maintain grave sites, monuments, and property. All three Cemeteries are in the National Historic Registry and are all in dire need of a lot of attention. So much history there," member Vicki Thibodeaux tells KATC.
