Police say they are continuing to search for the suspect of a shooting on E. Maple Avenue in Eunice. The suspect, a 17-year-old is still at large.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot says the victim has been identified as 20-year-old man from Eunice. He has undergone surgery for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The suspect is a 17 year old. Fontenot says that the teen's identity will not be released. "Had this incident occurred last year, before the state’s laws changed, the suspect could have been charged as an adult and his identity made known."
According to EPD, video from the scene shows the victim and suspect got into a fight at a convenience store that later moved outside.
Once outside, the fight continued and the suspect pulled out a gun and struck the victim in the face.
As suspect approached the victim again, he pointed the gun at the victim and shot him in the abdomen area.
Fontenot says the suspect fled the scene in a white 4 DOOR 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL with a primer black front bumper and a tan left front fender, bearing LA License number 133EJF. The shooter is still at large.
Charges are pending further investigation.
