An electrical fire at a substation in the northwest part of Opelousas left some residents in the area without power on Thursday morning.
According to the St. Landry Parish Fire Department, Highway 749 was closed while electrical crews work on a powerline.
Firefighters tell KATC that a truck came in contact with a low-hanging wire on the highway, the impact causing another power outage in the area.
No injuries were reported. Affected customers have since had their power restored, according to Cleco.
Cleco says crews are on the scene making repairs today and that some customers may experience intermittent outages as repairs are made on Thursday and into the weekend.
"We don't anticipate these outages to be for an extended period," said Corporate Communications Manager Jennifer Cahill. "Thank you for your patience, as Cleco makes repairs and investigates the situation."
St. Landry Parish Government says that the outage caused phone services to the St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency, Parish Animal Control and Parish Airport to go down.
Calls made to these agencies during the outage were rerouted to St. Landry Parish government until power was restored.
The Parish's Office of Emergency Preparedness says their employees were moved from their location near the substation as crews worked to make repairs.
