Community leaders in Opelousas paid tribute to local veterans and their families Wednesday with a luncheon at the Yambilee building.
This is the second year the event has been held.
Organizers say the "Hats Off to Veterans" event is just a small way for them to say 'thank you' for the sacrifices St. Landry Parish's veterans have made.
"We should realize that their service and their sacrifice and their families - we want to say thank you, we love you, and you're forever in our hearts," said Pat Mason-Guillory, Chairwoman of the St. Landry Parish Veterans' Memorial.
