Man accused of shooting brother to death

UPDATE: A Church Point man is accused of shooting his brother to death.

The Church Point Police Department received a call at 4:11 am on July 26, 2019, of an ambulance being needed at a home in the 300 block of N. Franques Street, according to Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux.

Upon arrival, officers located 68-Year-old Joseph Moore with a single gun shot wound to the chest inside the residence. Acadian Ambulance personnel attempted to revive Moore, but were unsuccessful. Joseph Moore was confined to a wheelchair due to having his right leg amputated, stated Thibodeaux.

An investigation led to the recovery of a .22 caliber rifle which was allegedly used in the shooting.

According to Chief Thibodeaux, the victim's brother, 65-year-old Elvin Moore, is the suspect in Joseph Moore's death.

Police say the brothers got into a verbal argument which led to the shooting.

Elvin Moore was arrested at the scene and transported to the Church Point Police Department where he was booked for second degree murder.

A bond was set at $300,000.

Church Point Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

Officials tell KATC that the the shooting happened inside a home on N. Franques Street at around 4:11 a.m. Friday. The victim was shot one time and was dead when officers arrived, according to Chief Dale Thibodeaux.

One person is in custody. The name of the suspect and victim have not been released.
