A Carencro man has been arrested for negligent homicide in connection to a crash that killed a Sunset woman and two-year-old boy in St. Landry Parish.

Troopers say that 48-year-old Michael Shane Guidry was arrested Thursday, October 24 following an investigation into the August 25 crash.

State Police say that the investigation determined that Guidry's actions leading up to the crash were negligent.

Guidry was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correction Center on two counts of Negligent homicide, one count of vehicular injuring and one count of improper lane usage.

According to Troopers, Guidry was traveling northbound on the I-49 service road when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle traveling southbound.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 35-year-old Lacy Leger of Sunset, and her 2-year-old rear seat passenger received fatal injuries in the crash.

A 16-year-old rear seat passenger suffered serious injuries.

Troopers say that Guidry was unrestrained at the time of the crash but received non-life threatening injuries. Impairment was suspected on his part, according to state police.
