UPDATE: Road along Hwy 167 near Plaisance now open

UPDATE: Another dies after Airline Highway accident

PLAISANCE, La. — UPDATE: LSP say that the road is now open along Hwy 167 near Plaisance following a traffic accident.

The Louisiana State Police are reporting that both lanes of Highway 167 near Plaisance are blocked due to a an accident involving an 18 wheeler hitting a guardrail.

LSP say that the a side tank was ruptured during the single vehicle accident, which caused diesel and engine oil to spill out on to the road.

State police say that a hazmat crew is working the scene, but that there is no threat to the public. As of now, both lanes are closed for recovery.

LSP advises that drivers take Thomas Avenue, to Canal road, to Dupris road to detour and get around it. Heavy trucks are advised to take state highways to get around the accident.

State police say there is currently no estimated time on how long it will take to clear the scene.
