Applications available for St. Landry Parish Sheriff's scholarship

Applications for the Louisiana Sheriff's Association Scholarship are now being accepted in St. Landry Parish.

The Sheriff's Office announced that the $500 scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding high school graduating senior in the parish.

Applicants can pick up a packet at all St. Landry Parish High Schools through the principal's office or guidance counselor. Those applying must return their completed packet to the the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office by April 1, 2021.

The scholarship is limited to permanent residents of Louisiana that currently reside in St. Landry Parish. The scholarship must be utilized in higher education within the State of Louisiana and the winner must enroll as a full time undergraduate student in order to be eligible to receive the award.

The Sheriff's Office says that the selection process will be conducted by an independent, third-party and is based primarily upon the applicants' GPA and ACT scores.
