A 42 year old man is believed to be the person killed in an Opelousas mobile home fire.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire which happened Wednesday in the 200 block of Elementary Lane.

Firefighters responded to the fire at around 12:45 a.m. on January 13.

As they were putting out the fire, firefighters say they located the body of a male occupant and a pet dog in a bedroom. While official identification and cause of death are pending an autopsy, the victim is believed to be the 42- year-old resident of the home.

Deputies have determined the fire began in the living room, however, there are still several potential factors investigators have not been able to rule out as it relates to determining the official cause, they say.

Investigators were unable to locate working smoke alarms in this home.
