The heat that has sunk in over the last several days is holding on and is proving really hard to shake, however, Thursday looks like it will produce a round of showers big enough to break this pattern.
An upper level low is going to drift east over Acadiana Thursday afternoon, as the high pressure ridge to our west retreats which will open up the doors for some showers and thunderstorms.
Showers won't arrive until the late afternoon, so unfortunately we won't get a lot of help with Thursday's heat as highs will once again push up into the mid 90s and a triple digit heat index.
Once the showers kick in though temperatures should start to drop and a few hefty thunderstorms will pop up right around the evening commute on Thursday.
As we get further into the overnight hours showers will wind down and it'll be a quiet start to the day on Friday, although another round of scattered rainfall will be possible by Friday afternoon.
Hot and dry conditions return to the forecast on Saturday and Sunday before a more unsettled pattern takes shape through next week.
