LAFAYETTE — While it is a requirement for employees of a business open to the public to wear a face mask or covering, it is still only recommended for the general public. However, some stores are now requiring people to wear a mask before entering. Many stores have even started selling the item.
Inside Jewelie's Boutique in Lafayette is rows of face masks for kids and adults, some paired with outfits.
"I never thought i would sell masks, but i also never thought I would be closed for two months," owner Stacey Hebert said.
Hebert begin selling masks online when she first had to close. Hebert says they usually sell a lot of accessories and gift, but in the last two weeks, they have sold hundreds of cloth masks.
"I've had to make a shift because everybody's lives have changed, and their needs have changed. People may not be buying a lot of apparel right now, they need face masks," Hebert said.
Jewelie's Boutique is one of many who begin selling the masks. Infinite Beauty is selling different kinds of masks and hand sanitizer.
"People are buying masks everyday. We sell them to regular people coming in. I've seen urgent cares buying, we also gave some to the police and firefighters, everyone is buying them," manager of Infinite Beauty, Mike Ghani said. "No one finds them, and they when they do find them, they're way overpriced."
LEDA has created a list of stores in Lafayette that are also selling the masks.
