Scott Fire Department on scene of hazmat incident

Lafayette Parish, LA - UPDATE: The 18-wheeler involved in the roll-over accident has been removed from the scene.

The evacuation is lifted for the 200 to 300 block of Mills Street and all roads are now open for normal flow of traffic according to Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier.

What Happened:

Around 3:00 PM Scott Fire Department responded to an accident in the 200 block of Mills, involving a tractor trailer transporting acrylic acid.

As a result of the hazards associated with the chemical, officials will be forced to remove the product from the wrecked trailer into another trailer.

Just prior to the tank to tank transfer, Scott Fire Department will have a 100 yard radius around the area evacuated as well as streets closed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Once is the product has been safely transferred, residents will be allowed back into their homes and roads will be reopen.

Scott Fire Chief, Chad Sonnier says the transfer will tentatively begin around 9 p.m., and continue throughout the night.
