One way to prepare for hurricane season is by checking your insurance policies.

According to Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon, only a quarter of people living in Louisiana have flood insurance, which has to be bought 30 days before any storm.

Donelon recommends taking pictures of every room in your house in case you need to file a claim later on.

"The first thing I advise is make a visit to your insurance professional, go over all your insurance coverage - your deductibles, namely storm deductibles in particular that are on almost every homeowner's policies these days."
