An Opelousas man who was arrested in January for Aggravated Battery was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting his child's mother and threatening her with a knife.

Donovan Williams, 31, was arrested on Tuesday, April 28, after police responded to a disturbance in the 1100 block of Newman Street at Williams' residence.

Officers were contacted by a third party that was concerned over a disturbance that had occurred between Williams and his child's mother, according to Opelousas Police spokesperson Major Mark Guidry.

An investigation revealed Williams had physically assaulted his child's mother, threatened her with a knife, and held her against her will. Williams also took a cell phone from the woman by force, all while the two were in the presence of a six-month-old infant.

Williams was arrested on Tuesday, but was booked on Friday, May 1. The booking was late "due to inmate cooperation."

He was charged with Armed Robbery, Domestic Abuse Battery-Child Endangerment, and False Imprisonment with a Dangerous Weapon.

Williams was previously arrested in January of this year after he allegedly stabbed another man in the eye during a fight. The victim had non life-threatening injuries.

He was initially booked with Attempted Second Degree Murder in that incident, but the charges were later downgraded to Aggravated Battery. He was also charged with Simple Criminal Damage to Property. He was released on the Aggravated Battery charges on a $5,150.00 bond, said Guidry.
