LAFAYETTE — UPDATE: A Lafayette man has been booked in connection with last night's shooting.
One person is in stable condition after being shot at the Plantation Inn last night.
Police were called to the NE Evangeline Thruway motel at about 11 p.m.
Once on scene, officers learned that the victim had been transported to a local hospital by the suspect after suffering a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The incident began with a verbal altercation between the victim and suspect. It turned violent when the suspect produced a weapon and shot the victim in the upper torso, police say.
The victim is now in stable condition, police say.
Corey Etienne, 34, of Lafayette, was booked at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
