One dead following Thursday shooting in Evangeline Parish

One man is dead and another in custody following a shooting Thursday night in Evangeline Parish.

Deputies say that on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at approximately 10:00 pm they responded to a report of a shooting on the 1200 block of Rock Pit Road.

The initial investigation revealed that a man identified as 33-year-old Harley David Brecken suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.

Deputies say a verbal altercation occurred between Brecken and a another man who was visiting his residence. That person has been identified as Branson Chase Vidrine.

The verbal altercation, allegedly led to Brecken being shot. Vidrine, identified as the suspect, fled the scene.

Brecken was taken to Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria. He died at the hospital the on Friday morning.

Vidrine was located and taken into custody in Rapides Parish. An Affidavit and Warrant of Arrest was submitted and signed for the charge of 2nd Degree Murder.

No bond has been set.

This investigation is still ongoing.
