Amid violent protests at the US Capitol, President-elect Joe Biden gave a forceful condemnation of the pro-Trump demonstration.
The protests came as members of Congress were set to count the Electoral College votes. But a number of GOP members of Congress were set to present objections to the Electoral College count.
“At this hour, our democracy unprecedented assault,” Biden said. “Unlike we have seen anything we have seen in modern time. An assault on the citadel of liberty. The capitol itself.”
Biden challenged President Donald Trump to give a more forceful condemnation of the protests.
“I call on President trump to go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the constitution and end to this siege,” Biden said.
“The world's watching. Like so many other Americans, I am shocked and saddened that our nation, so long the beacon of light and hope for democracy, has come to such a dark moment,” Biden added.
