For nearly 75 million people from the Midwest to the East coast, the sun rose Thursday with a chunk missing.

A partial solar eclipse occurred around sunrise on Thursday morning.

Those living in Washington, D.C. saw a maximum eclipse of about 55%, while those living further north near Buffalo, New York, saw about 78% covered.

For those living near Ontario, Canada, and parts north, the sun appeared as a rare “ring of fire” total solar eclipse.

The next total solar eclipse visible in the U.S., like the one back in 2017, will happen on April 8, 2024.
