GREGG COUNTY, Texas — An inmate who managed to carve his way out of a Texas jail facility on Thursday has been captured.
The Gregg County Sheriff's Office says that 34-year-old Jace Martin Laws of Gladewater was taken into custody on Friday morning.
According to the sheriff's office, Laws had allegedly managed to escape the Gregg County South Jail by carving his way through portions of brick and gaining access to the building infrastructure. Once out of the jail, deputies say Laws made his way to the exterior Gregg County Courthouse.
Deputies say Laws was being held in the jail after being sentenced to 70 years in prison on two counts of assault on a police officer.
While searching, officials informed the public that Laws may have shaved his head in order to change his appearance.
