United Airlines confirmed on Friday that a passenger on a flight that was diverted to New Orleans on Monday was exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms before he died at a hospital.

According to USA Today, the flight from Orlando to Los Angeles was diverted to New Orleans after the passenger had a medical emergency.

Passengers on the plane, on Twitter, claimed the man died of COVID-19 after overhearing the man's wife say he exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 including loss of taste and smell. Whether the passenger was positive for the virus was not confirmed.

USA Today reports that United Airlines said they had been contacted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the incident. The CDC has not responded to requests for information in the case, they report.

The flight continued on to Los Angeles on the same plane following the diversion.
