Divers recently visited the Titanic for the first time in 14 years, and they report that the once majestic ship is now in the process of being swallowed up by the ocean floor, according to CNN.

It is also being “ravaged by metal-eating bacteria.”

An exploration team from Triton Submarines completed five dives this month. The team captured footage of the wreck with special cameras in 4K footage.

The footage is being gathered for a new documentary made by Atlantic Productions.

“The most fascinating aspect was seeing how the Titanic is being consumed by the ocean and returning to its elemental form while providing refuge for a remarkably diverse number of animals” Patrick Lahey, president and co-founder of Triton Submarines.

The Titanic sunk in 1912 after hitting an iceberg. The wreck took the lives of 1,517 people. The ship now lies 370 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada, 4,000 meters below the surface.
