Louisiana's five veterans cemeteries will resume committal services beginning on Tuesday, June 9.

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs says that services, veterans' families and friends, and LDVA staff will follow public health and CDC guidelines on COVID-19.

LDVA says there will be limited seating in the committal shelter during services. Social distancing between individuals not from the same household in both seated and standing areas will also be enforced. All attendees and employees are required to wear face coverings, use hand sanitizer and remain home if sick.

LDVA says these changes and others will be in effect until further notice.

The veteran cemeteries’ offices will also reopen on Tuesday, June 9 daily from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Families will be allowed in offices one at a time and will be required to wear masks. LDVA says that family members may be asked to wait outside or in their vehicle until the can be assisted. Those not comfortable visiting offices in person can call or email LDVA for assistance.

Veterans parish service offices are also now open to the public.

LDVA says that many offices are open by appointment only, while others are only taking phone calls. Some remain closed due to building closures by local governments.

For the safety of veterans and the veterans assistance counselors, LDVA says that only one person is allowed per appointment, and masks are required.
