Members of the Louisiana Farm Bureau were outside of their Lake Charles office on Thursday, September 3 to feed the community and those helping with Hurricane Laura recovery.

According to Farm Bureau Facilities Safety Manager and Head Cook Wendell Miley, around 500 plus hamburgers and a big pot of jambalaya was served to those in need.

"We're trying to be here to help out like everybody else," he said. "There's just a tremendous need here and we're here today to cook."

Miley says that the goal was to feed as many people as possible.

Over the next few weeks, the Farm Bureau Federation says that they will be out in several communities serving meals and providing necessary assistance.

"We pride ourselves in being part of the community everyday and this is surely a part of it," said Louisiana Farm Bureau Secretary and Treasurer Michael Melancon. "In general this is just the culture of our area. We're doing this work every day whenever we possibly can. We're glad to do it."

Jim Harper President of Louisiana Farm Bureau says that the company's outreach will happen across the affected areas of Louisiana, especially where electricity remains out and where hot meals and help are desperately needed.

"We're all thinking about you and are here to help you," said Harper. "The whole community is with you."

Harper also encourages any farmers affected by Hurricane Laura to reach out to the Farm Bureau Federation for assistance.
