The Vermilion Parish School System is awaiting approval from the State Fire Marshal's Office on a plan that would allow for outdoor graduation ceremonies.

Interim Superintendent Brad Prudhomme tells KATC that the plan would allow the district's high schools to hold commencement exercises in their football stadiums.

Prudhomme added that even if the plan is approved, Gueydan High has opted to stick with the original plan of holding individual ceremonies for its students.

The individual ceremonies will allow each student to receive their diplomas on campus in the order they would have proceeded for their graduation. Each graduate would walk to receive their diploma at a staged area.
