Students in Vermilion Parish celebrated today after the district and several schools earned "A" performance grades.
Twelve schools in the parish earned "A" grades of their own, according to Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
One of those schools was Kaplan Elementary, where students learned about their "A" score from Principal Andrea Ford and Assistant Principal Tracy Hargrave. Ford and Hargrave stood on the roof of the school and revealed a banner that read the school's score - 90.5.
Students were then treated to snow cones to celebrate.

Students at Forked Island E. Broussard Elementary also had reason to celebrate. The school was recognized as the number one elementary school and the number one middle school in the district.
Principal Patricia Gaspard says the school received a score of 98.9, making them another "A" school in Vermilion Parish.

Superintendent Puyau released the parish's scores earlier this afternoon, citing hard work by the faculty and staff as the reason for the high numbers.
