Wilson Alonso Deras-Sabillion, 26, was arrested on August 31 for setting fire to a vehicle following an argument.

The Abbeville Fire Department contacted the State Fire Marshal's Office on August 31 for assistance in determining the origin and cause of a vehicle fire located in the 200 block of Jackie Drive.

After assessing the scene, investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. Evidence obtained with the assistance of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office identified Deras-Sabillion as a suspect in the case.

Police learned Deras-Sabillion had been staying at the Jackie Drive address for the past month at the invitation of the resident who was helping him find work.

According to the resident, he and Deras-Sabillion got into an argument the night before that left the man seeking shelter from Deras-Sabillion inside of his truck until Deras-Sabillion left the property. The resident reported later waking up to the sounds of his truck on fire.

SFM deputies located Deras-Sabillion at a store in town and took him into custody.

Deras-Sabillion admitted to being involved in an altercation and purchasing an accelerant at a nearby store in the time between the argument and the fire.

He then placed himself at the home around the time of the fire, but denied setting the fire.

Deras-Sabillion was arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on one charge of Simple Arson.
