Ground Breaking for Inclusive Playground

The Twin Port Commission and the City of Erath held a groundbreaking ceremony tonight for a new inclusive playground area at the Erath City Park.

The project has been totally funded by the Port Commission and will be the only one of its kind in Vermilion Parish.

Taylor Menacci, Mayor of Erath, explained how important the park will be to the community.

"With special needs kids, there's not a lot for them to do these days...they have Special Olympics, they go to school, but after that, there's not much for the parents to entertain them with. So we feel that this park will be a great benefit for the parents, for the families, for the day-to-day things that they go through in taking care of their special needs child."

Menacci added that the city will be working with the Rotary Club of Abbeville and the Satellite Club of Erath to host a fundraiser in November to raise money for a new basketball court.

Menacci said they will be partnering with a development class at a local school to come up with plans for the basketball court and that he hopes the community will come together once again to help support the effort.

The fundraiser will be the 2nd Annual Sip, Savor, and Support event - there will be martini and beer tasting, along with a burger/appetizer cook-off.

More information will be provided on this fundraiser closer to the date of.
