A late night crash in Breaux Bridge Friday claimed the lives of two juveniles, according to St. Martin Parish Deputies.

Around 10:40 on Friday night, Deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle crash with multiple occupants at the intersection of Salt Mine Hwy. and Sawmill Hwy. in Breaux Bridge.

The driver, identified as Paula Thibeaux, 47, of Breaux Bridge, was traveling eastbound on Salt Mine Hwy., when, for unknown reasons, she failed to stop at a stop sign, police say. The vehicle continued to travel through the intersection, crashed into a ditch, and made final impact with a tree.

Two of the backseat passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 12-year-old Trayvon Alexander and 11-year-old Keshon Batiste, both of Breaux Bridge.

The driver of the vehicle, along with two additional juvenile passengers, were transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries they sustained in the crash.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
