Traffic stop leads to arrest of Breaux Bridge man on outstanding attempted murder charge

A traffic stop in St. Martinville led to the arrest of a Breaux Bridge man on an outstanding warrant for attempted murder.

Following a traffic stop, deputies with SMPSO arrested Kentrelle Jones, 20, on outstanding warrants in connection with an October 12, 2019 shooting on George Dupuis Road in Breaux Bridge.

Deputies say that during that incident, Jones came from behind a residence and fired several shots at an individual as he was exiting his vehicle in the driveway. Immediately after the shooting, Jones fled the scene in a vehicle. No injuries were sustained during the shooting, but damage was sustained to the vehicle, according to police.

Jones was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Outstanding Warrant for one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Outstanding Warrant for one count of Criminal Damage to Property

He was also arrested on the following charges in connection with the traffic stop - Resisting an Officer and Reckless Operation.
