St. Martinville Jr. High student arrested on terrorizing charge

A St. Martinville Jr. High School student has been arrested in connection with a phone threat.

According to police, deputies received a call at 12:18 p.m. on Tuesday from an anonymous caller stating that a shooting had occurred at St. Martinville Jr. High School. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the scene, along with the assistance of the St. Martinville Police Department, and the school was placed on lockdown.

A thorough search of the exterior and interior of the building was conducted and the building was deemed safe.

Sheriff's deputies began an investigation in conjunction with the St. Martin Parish School Board. Upon culmination of the investigation, a 13-year-old juvenile was arrested by deputies and charged with one count of Terrorizing.

Following his arrest, he was booked and released into the custody of his parents.

Police encourage parents to speak with their children and remind them that incidents such as this will not be tolerated and that those who choose to partake in these types of incidents will be charged to the full extent of the law.
