CECILIA — Some gas stations in Acadiana are taking precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.

For the last week or so, the staff at T-Cochon in Cecilia has been wiping down pumps, door handles and buggies with warm water and bleach.

"We do this about every thirty minutes to an hour," said store employee Tina Castille. "We have wipes at the register and hand sanitizer at the counter also."

Although their pumps are frequently disinfected, it's still a good idea to wash your hands or disinfect them before and after you pump gas.

"We care about our community, so we don't want to get anybody infected and bring it home to their elderly people and have them get sick also," explained Castille.

T-Cochon's message is also reaching their customers with some stocking up on the essentials as they continue to quarantine.

"I got a new faucet for if my wife comes back, she can wash her hands real good," said one satisfied customer. "And, of course, I got my cracklins."

Even though it may feel like home at T-Cochon, the staff and customers say it's best to stay at your home unless necessary.

"I just hope everybody prays and that everybody's going to be safe after all this is over." The customer continued, "You got to be a tough Cajun and stick it out."
