A Breaux Bridge couple is accused of the exploitation of a person with infirmities after an investigation into a complaint by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say the complaint was in reference to an alleged theft of funds from an elderly individual.

50-year-old John "Troy" Hardy and his wife, 50-year-old Alicia Hardy, both of Breaux Bridge, were developed as suspects during the investigation.

Deputies say that an investigation revealed that John Hardy had allegedly removed funds from an account belonging to a 76-year-old family member.

The money was then allegedly moved into a separate account under the names of Hardy and his wife.

The Sheriff's Office says that John and Alicia Hardy allegedly spent over $106,000 in a matter of fifteen months.

That spending, according to deputies, was without the authorization of the family member.

Both John and Alicia Hardy were arrested on Thursday, October 10 and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on a charge of Exploitation of Persons With Infirmities.

After posting the $5,000 bond, the two were released.

An investigation is ongoing.
