St. Landry Parish School Board Committee meetings were held tonight in Opelousas to discuss, among other items, a survey for employee raises and the contract extension for Superintendent Patrick Jenkins.

The Finance Committee discussed a parish-wide bond proposition survey for employee raises. Committee member Joyce Haynes said the discussion focused on the results of a parish-wide survey of employees. The survey was conducted to determine whether or not employees wanted to pass a tax that would allow for a pay raise in the future, and when that raise would be proposed.

Most employees chose to propose the raise as soon as possible, this May, but the board believed that wasn't feasible and moved to propose the raise this December. That motion was approved by the committee.

In the Executive Committee meeting, Superintendent Jenkins' contract was on the agenda. Haynes said that agenda item was tabled until the board's April meeting. An evaluation of the superintendent is due in March and in the meantime, board members will revamp the evaluation form that is currently used. After the March evaluation, the committee will readdress the contract extension, and if it is approved, it will then go before the full board in April. The Board President and Vice President would then negotiate the superintendent's contract.
