Two ordinances that would have cut the salaries of the St. Landry Parish council members and of Parish President Bill Fontenot did not pass at tonight's meeting.

One ordinance would have set Fontenot's salary at $85,000. His salary has been set at $105,000 annually since 2016.

The second ordinance would have reduced the monthly salary of council members by 20 percent. Council members are paid $12,672 annually.

The pay cuts were proposed earlier this year as a way to find money to give parish employees a cost of living increase.

Also at tonight's meeting, the council set forth a tentative schedule for 2020 meetings. Those will be held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., making the first one of the year on January 15.

Tonight was the final meeting before the council and president's new terms start in January.
