The third annual prom dress giveaway by Granny's Girl took place today.
The event took place today at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Opelousas. .
Organizer LaTasha Benson told KATC she began this drive after hearing from a local girl who said she couldn't afford a dress and didn't want to attend prom.
"Right then and there, I knew I had to do something," Benson said. "I know I was fortunate that I had my parents and my grandmothers."
She was inspired by her grandmothers, who "dressed to kill."
All the dresses were donated, and volunteers helped sort them. The group also has provided free haircuts to boys headed to prom.
We'll have more later today on KATC TV3.
