Port Barre Police investigating fatal Thursday night shooting

Port Barre Police have arrested one in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in the city Thursday night.

On Thursday just before 9:00 p.m., police responded the 200 block of Beauxis Dr. in reference to a shooting. One adult male was fatally wounded and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Police have an adult male suspect in custody, but did not release his identity.

The incident happened during a child custody exchange. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Port Barre Police are investigating the shooting with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives and will provide updates as they become available.

Friday night, police were dispatched to the same area in reference to a stabbing, but the two incidents are not related, said Chief Boudreaux.

That incident took place around 7:30 p.m., and is being treated as a domestic violence investigation. The stabbing resulted in one person being transported to a local hospital with injuries.

More details will be released on these cases as they become available.
