The 14th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off was held today in downtown Opelousas.

Proceeds from the benefit help fifteen-year-old A'Vree Greene, a sophomore at Opelousas High, who was diagnosed with liposarcoma of the thigh in 2019. She is currently undergoing treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

The cook-off is held each year near the corner of Landry and Oak Streets in Opelousas. This year's event featured a motorcycle and Jeep run, live auctions, food, drinks, and music.

Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place in two categories: chicken and sausage gumbo and seafood gumbo.

A specially designed Gumbo Cook-Off paddle was presented to the new grand champion.
