A juvenile has been arrested in connection with a recent home burglary in the 200 block of Hazel Street in Port Barre.

Police were called to a home on Hazel Street on November 14 in response to a possible home burglary. Stolen from the home were several firearms, gaming station, smart phones, and other items. Police recovered video evidence during an investigation and were able to identify one of the three suspects as a local 16-year-old male juvenile.

On November 16, the Port Barre Police Department, along with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, executed an arrest and search warrant in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police were able to locate and arrest the 16-year-old and recovered several of the victim's stolen guns, the gaming devices, and other items.

Several other stolen firearms were recovered and linked to other thefts outside of Port Barre.

During the search, officers located a small amount of marijuana, a digital scale, and Schedule IV narcotics. These belonged to Hayward Jones, 37, who lives in the residence.

Jones was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics.

The juvenile was booked and charged with Burglary, three counts of Theft of a Firearm, Criminal Trespassing, Theft, and Criminal Damage to Property. He is being held via court order to be arraigned before a 27th JDC judge.

Parents of the juvenile, Cornelius Hardy Sr, 43, and Lybeth Hardy, 38, of Port Barre, were arrested and charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are pending.
