UPDATE: Evangeline Downs posted to their Facebook page shortly before 9 p.m. that they had been officially cleared by Centerpoint Entergy and was preparing for the return of its guests.
They expected to reopen the gates to the Boulevard and the casino by 11 p.m.
Opelousas Police said around 9:10 p.m. that crews were still on scene and they had not gotten clearance to let residents back in their homes.

A gas leak has been detected on Creswell Lane near Evangeline Downs, forcing the evacuation of the casino.
Several homes in the area also have been evacuated.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Crews digging in the area hit the gas line, officials say.
