Asbury Methodist Church in Lafayette and Second Harvest Food Bank collected canned goods on Tuesday.

Today was the first day of the church's food drive. More donations will be accepted on Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.

The church's reverend says they're just trying to help those in need.

"This is our second food drive of three for Second Harvest Food Bank. We have some wonderful volunteers out here collecting food as people drive up and we are just trying to make sure people in our community who need it will have something to eat," explained Rev. John Cannon.

Monetary donations are also accepted; those will go directly to Second Harvest.

You can drop off donations at the Spiritwind Courtyard located at 101 Live Oak Blvd.
